These shock leaders were designed specifically for long distance fishing to help you achieve maximum distance without the risk of breakage, and are perfect when used in conjunction with the Long Chuck main line. There are three different combinations of Long Chuck Tapered Leader, allowing you to match it to the breaking strength of the main line you're using, ensuring the cleanest possible join knot and also reducing the risk of "frap-ups" (this usually happens when lines of different diameters are joined and there is a sudden change in the way they come off the reel through the butt ring). Each leader is 10 yards long and includes 8 yards of 30 lb/0.47 mm break strength line to absorb the force of the cast and protect the fish with its abrasion resistance-ideal for fishing gravel bars-and then the last 2 yards go from 30 lb/0.47 mm to 10 lb/0.27 mm, 12 lb/0.30 mm or 15 lb/0.33 mm in diameter, depending on the version you choose. Tapered leaders have the same properties as the main Long Chuck line, namely very low stretch to make it easier to compress the rod (heavy mono is usually quite stretchy and interferes with casting), low water absorption, light weight for its breaking tension because it is transparent (the dyes add weight) so it stays in the air longer, and a high breaking tension to diameter ratio to reduce drag. Each spool contains five leaders.
