The Kickers may be just a folded piece of rubber, but it's often the simplest things that have the biggest impact on fishing, and they'll help you improve the hooking potential of a multitude of different rigs.
The bent hook was incredibly effective at taking a fish's mouth, but it also caused a lot of damage. So for years, anglers have used pieces of heat-shrink tubing to replicate this effect. The same effect can be achieved with Kickers, but all you have to do is slip one over the hook eye, without having to bother with any steam.
They're also ideal for spinner rigs. Some anglers want to camouflage their rig as much as possible, and the green or brown version is perfect for this, but on some sites, a brightly coloured piece of tube on the hook can actually make it more likely to be picked up - there are also mixed red/white and yellow/rose versions, if you want to add a splash of color to your hook. What's more, for anglers who use natural baits such as maggots and casters, or who regularly fish in mud where bloodworms are prevalent, the latest addition to the kickers range is the Bloodworm Red version.
All kickers, whatever their color, are made from sturdy rubber, with three different sizes to suit the hook you're using - small for sizes 10 and 12; medium for sizes 6 and 8; large for sizes 2 and 4 - so they stay firmly in place on the eye. When you hook a fish, the Kicker straightens out during the fight, but returns to its original shape and is ready for re-use. Each pack contains ten Kickers.
